New look, same flair for Myers

New look, same flair for Myers -

Perhaps the biggest difference between the Chance Myers of 2012 and the Chance Myers of 2013 has nothing to do with soccer.

Instead, it’s all in the hair. Myers' gold locks have been cut short, and according to teammate Dom Dwyer, they’ve been styled too.

Myers said since the 2012 season he spent his offseason and preseason working hard to further his fitness level, but also, decided it was time for a little bit of change.

I got my hair cut,” Myers said. “Dom actually likes my hair a lot. He did it.”

Myers motioned to his left, where Dwyer sat listening in on the conversation.

“You cut his hair?” I asked.

“I did,” Dwyer smiled. “It’s all in how you style it.”

So what did Myers say was the biggest difference with the new look?

My ears get cold now,” he laughed.

In Sporting KC’s 2013 debut against the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, Myers had the assist that set up Claudio Bieler for his first MLS goal in the team’s 3-1 win.

The win was a good way to start for Myers, who has big goals in plan for the 2013 season.

“Winning championships,” Myers said. “Obviously we fell short of MLS Cup last year, so that’s our number one goal and to do that we have to start off winning the League. We’ve got to get into a good position, use home field advantage and hopefully getting the final here.”

From the outside, the team’s chemistry is apparent by the successes shown on the playing field, but from the inside, Myers said there is a strong bond between the players of Sporting Kansas City.

“I like to say our team is a great locker room,” Myers said. “We all get a long and we all like to go out and do things together – dinner, movies, bowling, whatever. I’ve got a lot of close friends on the team.”

So with his new look and his strong start to the 2013 season, Myers is ready for what this year throws at him.
