Mikey Lopez plays 18 minutes in U.S U-20 loss to Spain

Sporting Kansas City midfielder Mikey Lopez made his FIFA U-20 World Cup debut on Friday, playing the final 18 minutes of the U.S. U-20 national team's 4-1 loss to Spain. Lopez entered the game for LA Galaxy forward Jose Villarreal in the 72nd minute and picked up a yellow card in the third minute of stoppage time.


The Spanish U-20 national team jumped out to a 4-0 lead on the United States before Real Salt Lake forward Luis Guil pulled one back for the U.S. U-20s in the 77th minute.


The United States will continue their trek through Group A of the FIFA U-20 World Cup when they take on France on Monday at 10 a.m. CT at Ali Sami Yen Arena in Istanbul. The match can be seen live on ESPN2, WatchESPN and Univision Deportes.
