Sporting Kansas City forward C.J. Sapong loaned to Orlando City Soccer Club

Sporting Kansas City announced on Friday that it has loaned forward C.J. Sapong to USL PRO affiliate Orlando City Soccer Club for a pair of weekend matches. Sapong will return to Kansas City on Monday ahead of Sporting KC’s CONCACAF Champions League opener against Nicaraguan club Real Esteli on Wednesday.

Sapong recently returned to Kansas City after starting three games during his first loan stint with Orlando City. The 24-year-old striker recorded a goal and an assist and also drew the game-winning penalty kick in a 2-1 victory over the Charleston Battery. Sapong will join Orlando City on Friday ahead of the club’s matches against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (Saturday) and VSI Tampa Bay (Sunday).

In 15 appearances this season, Sapong has tallied one goal and one assist for Sporting Kansas City. The 2011 MLS Rookie of the Year has 15 career goals and eight assists for Sporting KC.

In addition, Sporting Kansas City announced that Homegrown defender Kevin Ellis, who was on loan to Orlando City but had returned to train in Kansas City during the Lions’ two-week break, has sustained an injury and will remain in Kansas City to receive treatment.

Sporting Kansas City returns to league action on Saturday with a nationally televised match against the New York Red Bulls at Sporting Park. The match can be seen live on NBC Sports Network at 5:30 p.m. CT. Limited tickets are available and can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com or at the Sporting Park box office.
