The stat sheet from Tuesday's CCL match between Sporting Kansas City and Real Esteli FC succintly shows what all in attendance at Sporting Park saw first hand...

  • Possession: 66.6% to 33.3%
  • Passes: 491 to 244
  • Final third passes: 153 to 46

But in the only category that counts, the teams split the points with the final score level at 1-1 after 90 minutes. While Real Esteli's last sniff at goal came in the 61st minute on Leandro Teófilo's free kick, saved by Eric Kronberg, Sporting Kansas City found the equalizer in the 78th minute to set off a flurry of activity in the game's final ten minutes. In the end, Real Esteli withstood the pressure to stifle Sporting KC's search for a game-winning goal and in doing so, earned their first point in this year's tournament. They'll now look to go one better in Honduras next week when they conclude their CCL campaign at CD Olimpia.
