Affiliates in Action: Late surge falls short as OKC loses 2-1 in Sacramento

Medranda - August 2, 2014

Sporting KC has partnered with USL PRO clubs Orlando City SC and OKC Energy FC for the 2014 season. As part of the agreement, Sporting KC will loan players to the clubs to play games and gain experience throughout the year. Each week, we’ll recap the performances of the Sporting KC players on loan.

Two early scores from Sacramento Republic FC condemned OKC Energy FC to a 2-1 road defeat Saturday night. Midfielder Jimmy Medranda played 31 minutes and notched two shots as a second half substitute, and although Kyle Grieg pulled a goal back in the 74th minute, OKC could not muster an equalizer.

Energy FC (8-9-5, 29 points) dropped one spot to seventh in the USL PRO standings but remains in the eight-team playoff picture.

Sacramento surged ahead when Adam Jahn glanced a header past goalkeeper Samir Badir in the 16th minute. Less than two minutes later, an unfortunate own goal from former Sporting KC defender Cyprian Hedrick doubled the hosts' advantage. OKC responded the 74th minute when former Sporting KC midfielder Michael Thomas lofted a through ball Grieg, who slid it home from close range.

Next up for Jimmy Nielsen's men is a pair of home matches this week at Pribil Stadium. Energy FC hosts last-place Arizona United (6-12-5, 23 points) on Thursday before welcoming fourth-place LA Galaxy II (12-7-4, 40 points) on Saturday.
