By The Numbers: Costa Rican challenge awaits Sporting KC

Sporting Kansas City hosts the first of two straight CONCACAF Champions League group stage matches Thursday night against Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa. The reigning MLS champions picked up a point in their CCL opener on Aug. 19 at Real Esteli, but now a sterner test awaits at Sporting Park. Saprissa has yet to lose in six games across all competitions since their 2014 Apertura campaign began in August. Moreover, each of Costa Rica's three CCL representatives have yet to lose in the group stage. Here's a closer look at the matchup in our By The Numbers preview.

Sporting KC

  • Sporting KC is the only MLS team making a second consecutive appearance in the CCL.
  • Sporting KC has conceded just one goal in three CCL matches at Sporting Park.
