Four Academy alums see action in NCAA tournament

Four Sporting Kansas City Academy alums saw action in the first two rounds of the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament, which kicked off on Nov. 20 with 48 teams competing in the single-elimination competition. Eric DeJulio (Creighton), Zach Wright (UNC) and Andy Lopez (UNC) remain in contention for a berth in the 2014 College Cup as the field reaches the Round of 16, to be played on Sunday, Nov. 30.


Eric DeJulio (Creighton) - The junior defender started and played the full 90 minutes for the 12th-seeded Bluejays (15-3-2) in their 1-0 victory over Oregon State on Sunday. DeJulio has played a part in each of Creighton's 11 shutouts this season. On Sunday, the Bluejays allowed only two shots (one on goal) in the second round victory. Creighton will next take on Xavier (15-5-2) at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday, Nov. 30 at Morrison Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska.


Zach Wright (North Carolina) - The freshman forward played 29 minutes for the Tar Heels (14-5-1) in their 6-0 victory over James Madison University last Thursday, accounting for three of the team's 24 shots in the first round victory. The two-time national champions advanced to the third round with a 2-1 upset of 10th-seeded Charlotte on Sunday and will next face tonight's winner between Clemson and Coastal Carolina.


Raymond Lee (Saint Louis) - The senior midfielder started and played the full 90 minutes for the Billikens (14-5-2) in a 2-0 victory over Tulsa on Thursday before also going the distance in a 2-1 loss at Louisville on Sunday. Lee's 2014 campaign comes to a close with two goals and four assists after appearing in every match for Saint Louis this season.


Matt Lewis (Fordham) - The freshman defender started and played the full 90 minutes for the Atlantic 10 champion Rams (8-9-4) in a 2-1 loss to Dartmouth in the first round on Thursday. The match marked his 20th appearance of the season.
