QUOTES: Sporting KC 2-2 Colorado Rapids

Sporting KC Manager Peter Vermes

On Sporting KC's performance in a 2-2 draw against Colorado...
I felt like we played too negatively in the first half. We played the ball backwards too much. But in the second half, we controlled the game going forward and created a lot of chances in front of the box. We actually should have scored earlier when we had a great chance right in front of goal. (James Rogers) came in and the goalkeeper came out and made the save. In the first half we were negative, frankly. In the second half we really went forward quite a bit.

On fielding two different lineups in the first and second half...
We’re taking a look at a lot of different players at the moment. It’s not like one team’s the starting team, I’m just trying to look at different players together and seeing how they can function with different people when they come out onto the field and play. Today I thought it was important to see Marcel [de Jong] play with [Matt] Besler, just because I wanted to see how that would work. I haven’t seen James Marcelin play with guys like Besler and Ike [Opara]. It’s really just trying to look at how people play together.

On Canadian international defender Marcel de Jong playing as a trialist for Sporting KC...
He’s training with us as a trialist. He’s got a lot of experience playing left back and he’s good on the ball. He understands the game very well and he knows how to push the game, as well. It was a good first game. He’s got to get fitter, so we didn’t want to give him too many minutes.

On Graham Zusi returning to fitness...
He’s been training the last couple days full-on with no problem, so we’re going to try to give him some minutes over here. Hopefully he feels good and we’ll take it game-to-game.
