Academy U16's and U18's go undefeated on Texas road trip

The Sporting Kansas City Academy U16's and U18's returned from Texas unbeaten in four games over the weekend in the 2014-15 U.S. Soccer Development Academy. All four matches were held at the Bear Branch Soccer Complex and played against teams within the Central Conference's Frontier Division.


SPORTING KC ACADEMY U16'S

The under-16 squad (3-6-9, 11th place) continued their impressive start to 2015 by extending the team's unbeaten run to eight straight games. On Saturday, the U16's were 2-1 winners over Texas Rush with goals from the team's top two scorers: Felipe Hernandez (4 goals) and Adam Collinsworth (5 goals). On Sunday, the U16's rallied for a 1-1 draw against Texans SC Houston thanks to Andrew McLeod's equalizing effort.

SPORTING KC ACADEMY U18'S

The under-18 squad (8-7-3, 7th place) also picked up four points to improve their playoff push and did so against two teams in postseason position. The U18's kicked off the weekend with a dramatic 1-1 draw against Texas Rush as Jack Freeman scored his first goal of the year in the 90th minute. The late-game heroics carried over to Sunday as the U18's prevailed 2-1 over Texans SC Houston courtesy of Bryce Gibson's 84th-minute game-tying goal and Fernando Borges' 89th-minute match winner.

Both teams will now host Colorado Rush in a doubleheader at Swope Soccer Village on Saturday. The U18's kick off at 10 a.m. CT, followed by the U16's match at 12:30 p.m. CT.
