Academy drawn with Toronto FC, River Plate & Aspire Academy in U17 Generation adidas Cup

Generation adidas Cup 2014

The Sporting Kansas City Academy -- one of six MLS academy teams to qualify for the Champions Division at the upcoming 2014-15 Generation adidas Cup -- were drawn into Group A and will play Toronto FC (Canada), River Plate (Argentina) and Aspire Academy (Qatar) in the group stage. The annual U-17 tournament will be held from March 29 - April 4 at the Toyota Soccer Center at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas with all 12 teams in the Champions Division guaranteed five games.


Each of the three group winners will advance to the semifinals, along with the best overall second place team, while the remaining eight sides will play a pair of placement matches.


SKC ACADEMY SCHEDULE AT 2015 U17 GA CUP
Game 1: Sporting KC vs. Aspire Academy at 3pm on March 29
Game 2: Sporting KC vs. Toronto FC at 4:30pm on March 30
Game 3: Sporting KC vs. River Plate at 3pm on April 1
Games 4-5: Semifinals/final and consolation matches on April 3-4


Teams will field a roster of 18-20 players -- all born on or after January 1, 1998 -- and MLS academy sides qualified through regional events held in the fall and spring. The top two clubs in the East, Central and West standings secured berths in the Champions Division while all remaining teams qualified for the Premier Division.


Sporting Kansas City finished the preliminary rounds with the best goal differential (+8) of all 18 MLS academy teams. Group A opponent Toronto FC (3-0-2) was the only side to score more goals (12) during qualifying while Central winners FC Dallas were the only team to concede fewer (2 goals against).
