After a 4-2 win over Qatar's Aspire Academy on Sunday, the Sporting Kansas City Academy U16's fell 2-0 to Toronto FC on Monday at the 2014-15 Generation adidas Cup in Frisco, Texas.

Those two results set up a decisive group stage finale on Wednesday when Sporting KC squares off against River Plate (Argentina) at 3 p.m. CT on Field 8 at the Toyota Soccer Center. The Group A winner automatically advances to the semifinals -- to be held in Toyota Stadium -- along with the best overall second place finisher amongst the 12 teams in the Champions Division.

The Generation adidas Cup has been held annually since 2007 and serves as Major League Soccer's Under-17 national championship. In addition, MLS announced on Monday that this year's competition will be held in conjunction with the league's inaugural under-12 tournament.


Sporting KC's U-12 Academy squad -- led by head coach Matt Trumpp -- is one of eight MLS academies participating, along with youth sides from Mexico's Queretaro FC and Club America USA. Three days of 7-v-7, 30-minute matches will be played, culminating in a championship match featuring the winner of each six-team group.
