Saad Abdul-Salaam at 2015 MLS SuperDraft

Sporting Kansas City announced on Wednesday that the club has agreed to loan defender Saad Abdul-Salaam to the North American Soccer League’s San Antonio Scorpions. The 23-year-old rookie joins goalkeeper Jon Kempin on loan with the reigning NASL champions ahead of their 2015 season opener on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Abdul-Salaam logged three goals and 12 assists in 54 games over three seasons at Akron, including a team-high six assists in 2014, and was an All-MAC First Team honoree. He earned an invite to the 2015 MLS Player Combine, where he was a top-10 performer in both the 30-meter dash and vertical jump categories.

Sporting Kansas City selected Abdul-Salaam 12th overall in the first round of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft and he appeared in three preseason matches for the club.
