Sporting Kansas City remained unbeaten during the month of June with a 2-2 draw at the Montreal Impact on Saturday, receiving two goals from forward Dom Dwyer. The club will play two games this week in separate competitions, first traveling to face rivals Houston Dynamo in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 on Wednesday. The match will stream live on SportingKC.com and kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT at BBVA Compass Stadium.
Following Wednesday's U.S. Open Cup showdown, Sporting Kansas City (6-8-4, 22 points) will return home to host Columbus Crew SC (3-5-7, 16 points) on Sunday at Children's Mercy Park. The game is set to kick off at 6 p.m. CT and will be televised nationally on FS1 and FOX Deportes. Local radio broadcasts will be available on Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Grande 1340 AM, and The Final Whistle: Sporting KC Postgame Show will air immediately after the match on 810 WHB. Defender Matt Besler and winger Graham Zusi will rejoin Sporting Kansas City this week after spending the previous month with the United States Men's National Team at the Copa America Centenario.
Sporting KC announced last Wednesday the four nominees for this year's Sporting Legends inductee: Mo Johnston, Ron Newman, Josh Wolff and Kerry Zavagnin. Online voting is open through tonight at 11:59 p.m. CT. Sporting Legends is a hall of honor that pays tribute to club icons and provides a platform for those inducted to reconnect with the Kansas City soccer community.
A new episode of the Sporting Kansas City show will air Tuesday at 7 p.m. CT on Sports Radio 810 WHB. Hosts Nate Bukaty and Carter Augustine will recap last week's action for club and country and preview Sporting KC's matches against Houston and Columbus. Today is the registration deadline for the Sporting Club 3v3 Classic on Sunday at Stump Park Soccer Complex in Shawnee, Kansas (4751 Woodland Dr.). The 3v3 tournament costs $350 per team and is open to boys and girls from U-6 to U-19 age groups, as well as men and women 30 and over.
Tickets are on sale for Buzz Beach Ball 2016, presented by Sporting Kansas City and 96.5 The Buzz. Buzz Beach Ball 2016 will be held July 16-17 at Children's Mercy Park, marking the first time the show has been extended to a second day. Twenty-four artists are slated for the concert, including Cage The Elephant and Alabama Shakes. Single-day tickets start at $35 and weekend passes can be purchased for as low as $49.
Voting for the Westlake Ace Hardware Helpful Moment of the Month is now open at SportingKC.com/helpful. Supporters can choose among three nominees for the month of June, with each participant receiving a $7 coupon to Westlake Ace Hardware locations in the Kansas City area.
