Quotes: Sporting KC 1-3 Houston Dynamo - June 29, 2016

Graham Zusi - Sporting KC vs Houston Dynamo - June 29, 2016

Sporting KC Manager Peter Vermes

On the team’s performance…
“We gave up three easy goals. In all situations we had more than enough to deal with them. We just gave up three easy goals. Credit to them, they deserved to move on to the next round, we don’t.”

On Rubio’s performance…
“He was good. He created the goal. Also credit to Brad for finishing his run which is what you want to do in the box. That’s why we scored because he finished his run off, which was great to see. And at that point I think we were on the verge of getting a second but we just didn’t have enough in us to get it. But credit to Rubio, he played well. I thought Brad was very active when he came on. Those were two pleasant things in the game."

On Kann’s performance…
“He did some good things. I’d have to go back and look at all the goals to see it there was something different that he could have done. All and all, it was a decent performance from him. I’d love to see him get a shutout in that kind of game but obviously we didn’t get it. We didn’t do enough during the game. We gave up a terrible first goal.”

On giving up an early goal
“When a goal is scored and you don’t score it, you have to get back in the game. Somehow all of a sudden you have to start exerting more energy. You have to take risks to get forward but then if they counter you, you now need to recover and that wastes more energy. At the end, it depends on how efficient you are with the things you do during the game: how you keep the ball and don’t lose the ball. Chasing the game kills you after a while. It just takes more and more of your energy away and that is a big issue.”

On the backline…
“There are a lot of things that are hard to see from the sideline. I would tell you that we lost a lot of balls and I don’t think we had the same rhythm as we had in the last few games. In the last few games we had good rhythm and we were cohesive, I just don’t think it was the same in this game.”
