Northwest Missouri State advances to NCAA Division II Championship quarterfinals

Northwest Missouri State Football Harding Preview

Northwest Missouri State University continued their dominant season with a impressive 44-13 win over Emporia State in the second round of the 2016 NCAA Division II Football Championship. The win sets up a quarterfinal match this weekend with No. 3 seed Harding, who defeated Sioux Falls 27-24 after Tristan Parsley kicked a 35-yard field goal in overtime to win the game.

For the third consecutive year, the NCAA Division II Football Championship will be held at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas. The match will kick off at at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday, December 17 and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2 and WatchESPN. Tickets for the match are now available and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com or by calling 888-KC-GOAL.

Last weekend’s victory extended the Bearcats' school record 26-game winning streak. The defending NCAA Division II football champions have yet to win a game this year by fewer than 21 points and have scored fewer than 41 points only once this season. Despite allowing 55 points combined in their first two playoff matches, Harding enters Saturday’s match with one of the better defenses in Division II football. The Bisons allowed only 11 points per game during the regular season.

All four quarterfinal matches will take place on Saturday with all four No. 1 seeds still alive.
