SPR Originals, Episodes 1-7

SPR Originals - Dec. 9

Episode 1: Head Coach Marc Dos Santos

Canadian Marc Dos Santos was selected as the first-ever Swope Park Rangers head coach prior to the club's inaugural season in 2016. Episode 1 looks at his past and what brought him to the Rangers, while also touching on the side's inaugural game against Portland Timbers 2 on March 26. Dos Santos joined NASL expansion team the San Francisco Deltas at the conclusion of the Rangers' season, with his assistant, Nikola Popovic, replacing him at the helm.

Episode 2: Kempin and Duke

Throughout much of the Rangers' inaugural season, the club was led by two local players. Goalkeeper Jon Kempin, a Leawood, Kan. native, made 12 appearances in 2016 - more than any other goalkeeper on the SPR roster while club captain Christian Duke, who is from Overland Park, Kan., was the only player to appear in all 34 games for the Rangers in 2016. Episode 2 delves into their local connections and what it means to play for their hometown team.

Episode 3: Gameday

Episode 3 takes viewers behind the scenes of a typical Swope Park Rangers gameday at Swope Soccer Village. From player arrivals through postgame autographs, this piece takes a look at the Rangers' June 18 showdown with OKC Energy FC.

Episode 4: St. Louis Road Trip

With the USL focusing heavily on regional matchups, the Rangers struck up an immediate rivalry with Saint Louis FC. The rivalry between Kansas City and St. Louis has deep roots, spanning multiple sports, and Episode 4 looks at the cross-state trip to World Wide Technology Soccer Park as SPR took on Saint Louis FC on Aug. 3.

Episode 5: Amer Didic

One of the main stories from the Swope Park Rangers' inaugural season was the emergence of rookie center back Amer Didic. Spotted playing at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan., Didic was invited for a preseason trial and signed with the club before the start of the season. Didic was the first player to be called up to play for Sporting KC in the CCL, while he was named to the USL All-League First Team and was a USL Defender of the Year finalist. Episode 4 looks at his journey from Bosnia to Canada and eventually to SPR and Sporting KC.

Episode 6: USL Cup Playoffs

The Rangers closed out the regular season with a fourth-place finish in the Western Conference, earning the side a home game in the USL Cup Playoffs. Episode 6 covers the atmosphere and intensity of the side's Western Conference Quarterfinal against LA Galaxy II at Swope Soccer Village on Sept. 30, 2016.

Episode 7: USL Cup Final

After clinching the Western Conference crown with a 3-0 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on Oct. 15, 2016, the Rangers became just the second expansion team to take part in the USL Cup Final. Episode 7 begins with the team's travel to New Jersey to face New York Red Bulls II on Oct. 23 and culminates with a brief look back at what was an incredible inaugural season.
