The Swope Park Rangers (12-5-5, 3rd place) will take on Sacramento Republic FC (10-7-4, 5th place) this Wednesday at Papa Murphy’s Park in Sacramento, California. The game will stream live on SportingKC.com and via the USLsoccer.com MatchCenter.
The Rangers have drawn their last three games – a 0-0 road draw at Saint Louis FC on Aug. 5, a 1-1 draw at Swope Soccer Village against Orange County SC on Aug. 12 and a 2-2 comeback draw at home against Real Monarchs SLC on Friday night.
In their most recent match, the Rangers found themselves 2-0 down at halftime before introducing Kharlton Belmar and Nansel Selbol off the bench at halftime and the attacking duo each netted to earn SPR a point.
Sacramento Republic FC, who are 6-2-2 at home this season, saw their seven-game unbeaten streak and three-game winning run snapped this past weekend with a 2-1 home loss to Reno 1868 FC. Despite taking an early lead through Hayden Partain, Sacramento were pegged back after goals from former SPR forward Dane Kelly and a stunning free kick from Chris Wehan as Reno left Papa Murphy’s Park with all three points.
The Rangers and Sacramento have met twice before in the two clubs’ history, with SPR going an unbeaten 1-0-1 to date. The two sides played to a 1-1 draw at Papa Murphy’s Park in their inaugural meeting in May of 2016 as Kevin Oliveira opened the scoring from distance before current Sporting KC striker Cameron Iwasa equalized for Sacramento.
The Rangers then won the first match played at Swope Soccer Village on April 15, 2017 when Mark Anthony Gonzalez nodded home the only goal of the game late on for a 1-0 victory.
