Two MLS matches to air nationally in Week 28 as playoff push resumes

Sporting Kansas City will continue their race for top spot in the Western Conference on Saturday when the New England Revolution visit Children's Mercy Park at 7:30 p.m. CT on FOX Sports Kansas City and FOX Sports Midwest.

But Kansas City soccer fans will have the opportunity to catch even more live action before and after Saturday night's fixture. We take a look at both of those games below, which includes an appearance from a New York Red Bulls outfit that will visit Kansas City on Wednesday for the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final.

Atlanta United FC vs. Orlando City SC | 2:55 p.m. CT Saturday, Facebook Live and Univision

Saturday's spectacle at Mercedes-Benz Stadium will be nothing short of spectacular. Atlanta United FC has been an absolute buzzsaw in their new home, defeating FC Dallas 3-0 and New England Revolution 7-0 over the previous six days, and will now break the all-time MLS record for tickets sold to a standalone match. The club announced Thursday it had sold more than 69,256 tickets for Saturday's contest against Dom Dwyer and Orlando City SC, eclipsing the record previously held by LA Galaxy in their first-ever game in 1996.

Boasting the uber-talented trio of Miguel Almiron, Josef Martinez and Hector Villalba, Atlanta (12-8-6, 42 points) has multiple games in hand on its Eastern Conference rivals and will look to continue their ascension up the table against an Orlando side (9-12-7, 34 points) that desperately needs a result to keep its slim playoff hopes alive.

New York Red Bulls vs. Philadelphia Union | Noon CT Sunday, ESPN & ESPN Deportes

The timing of Sunday's fixture won't make Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch jump for joy, as his team will have just two days' rest before facing Sporting Kansas City in the Open Cup Final at Children's Mercy Park. Nevertheless, this is a game that carries significant importance as New York (12-10-5, 41 points) continues its push to the playoffs. Marsch's men currently occupy the sixth and final postseason spot, while the Philadelphia Union (8-12-8, 32 points) sit nine points back and will need a victory on Sunday if they have any aspirations of extending their 2017 campaign past Decision Day on Oct. 22.
