CONCACAF announced today that the CONCACAF Gold Cup ā€“ the flagship national team tournament of North, Central America and the Caribbean ā€“ will expand to include 16 competing nations for the upcoming 2019 edition and beyond.

The 15th edition of the biennial CONCACAF Gold Cup will take place in the summer of 2019. The tournament's expansion from 12 to 16 teams will include a revamped qualifying process, which will be revealed on March 7 in Miami Beach, Florida.

The Gold Cup has served as the region's top prize for national teams since 1991. The United States Men's National Team has lifted six Gold Cup titles, including last July when Sporting KC defenders Matt Besler and Graham Zusi started and played 90 minutes in a 2-1 championship victory over Jamaica.
