Team of the Week: Ilie, Melia and Opara lauded for stifling Atlanta attack

Sporting Kansas City's statement win in Atlanta has brought Team of the Week recognition for three of the team's standout performers.

Ilie and Tim Melia secured two of the 11 spots on MLSsoccer.com's latest Team of the Week, while Ike Opara was included on the MLS Team of the Week bench.

Ilie contributed assists on both Sporting KC goals, along with three other chances created, in the club's 2-0 victory, while Melia recorded eight saves - most of any goalkeeper in Week 11 - for his League-leading fifth clean sheet of the season. Opara, whose seven clearances were most on the team, helped marshal a Sporting KC defense that became the first to shut out Atlanta United at home in a regular season match.

Sporting Kansas City remain atop the Western Conference for an eighth straight week and will now travel north to face Minnesota United FC at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Coverage will begin at 12:30 p.m. CT on FOX Sports Kansas City Plus, FOX Sports Midwest Plus and FOX Sports GO and all fans are welcome at the team's official watch party at No Other Pub in the Kansas City Power & Light District (1370 Grand Blvd.).
