Sporting KC honors longtime fan with special banner at MLS is Back Tournament

Barb Goebel banner at MLS is Back Tournament - Sporting KC

The memory of Barb Goebel, a longtime Sporting Kansas City season ticket member and part of The Cauldron supporters’ group who died in a cycling accident in April, was honored during the club’s MLS is Back Tournament Group D opener Sunday night against Minnesota United.

A banner reading “Always in our hearts” and featuring a profile shot of Goebel was draped behind their bench. In addition, captain Matt Besler had her name written on his jersey's MLS Unites patch.

To learn more about Goebel’s backstory, check out this feature piece on SportingKC.com. She was a founding member of the Ladies of SKC supporters section and was an ever-constant at games, charity events, tifo paintings and social gatherings.

Goebel's Sporting fandom truly reached another gear when the club rebranded from the Kansas City Wizards to their current iteration and opened Children's Mercy Park. Judging by the tifo and Besler's gesture, she left quite the impact.
