Fitness coach James Collins is entering his first season with the Swope Park Rangers having stepped up from his role as the Sporting KC Academy fitness coach ahead of the 2018 campaign.
Collins, 26, has extensive experience as a strength and conditioning coach at both the high school and collegiate level. The Dublin, Ireland native has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Science from the Institute of Technology Tallaght in Dublin and a Master’s Degree in in Strength and Conditioning from Springfield College in Massachusetts.
Collins served as the Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at Springfield College from 2014-2016 – working directly with the men’s soccer program. In 2016, Collins also earned experience as the Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at Northeastern University in Boston.
Collins was hired to work with the Sporting Kansas City Academy in January 2017, working with current Sporting KC Homegrown players Gianluca Busio and Jaylin Lindsey in his first year with the organization.
During his time in Europe, Collins worked closely with current Arsenal FC head fitness coach, Barry Solan, while the two worked for rugby club Clontarf RFC in Dublin from 2010-2014.
In addition, Collins is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
