Colonel Donald Ballard
A native of Kansas City, Colonel Donald "Doc" Ballard is retired from the Kansas National Guard and the United States Navy. During his service he was wounded eight times and received three purple hearts. In 1970 he was awarded the nation's highest military award, the Medal of Honor, for his actions on may 16, 1968 in which he jumped on a grenade to save his fellow soldiers, only to have the weapon thankfully be a dud.
