They've placed 2,000+ weekly volunteer Reading Mentors in 33 Kansas City metro schools, providing one-on-one reading support to early elementary students in under-resourced communities. While also offering Science of Reading-based tutoring, monthly book distribution, and Author Partnerships that bring diverse local authors into classrooms. Their north star: every Kansas City child reading by the end of third grade. They primarily serve students in grades 1–3 attending public and charter schools in the Kansas City metropolitan area, with a focus on Title I schools where 75% or more of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Many of their students face compounding barriers, including poverty, housing instability, and chronic absenteeism. They also serve the 2,000+ community volunteers who show up each week as Reading Mentors: neighbors, coworkers, and community members investing in Kansas City's youngest readers.
