In a monumental new chapter for North American soccer, beginning in 2023, all of the clubs from the top two first division leagues in North America -- Major League Soccer and LIGA MX -- will compete in a completely reimagined Leagues Cup: an annual, month-long, tournament. Both leagues will pause their respective seasons for one month during the summer to play Leagues Cup, showcasing the soccer infrastructure and capabilities in the region in the years leading into the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the U.S., Canada and Mexico -- the first World Cup to feature 48 countries.

Sporting Kansas City will face off against 10-time LIGA MX champions Deportivo Toluca FC in knockout Round of 32. Leagues Cup kicked off July 21 and runs through Aug. 19 with the champion, as well as the second and third-place finishers, qualifying for the Concacaf Champions League.

Sporting KC will host Deportivo Toluca on August 4 at Children’s Mercy Park. This match is a must win for both teams in the hopes to advance to the next round of Leagues Cup. Toluca is coming off an impressive Leagues Cup start, getting all six point in the group stage with eight goals in the those two matches. Sporting will look to keep the momentum going after their 1-0 victory against Chivas Guadalajara, that saw the Liga MX giant eliminated. Tickets for the marquee match are available now.

The Rules:

  • Regulation win is worth 3 points
  • No ties
  • Both teams receive one point if the match is tied at the end of the 90 minutes
  • If the match is tied after the 90 minutes, a penalty shootout will proceed and the winner will get additional point
