OKC Energy FC beat the New York Red Bulls Reserves 1-0 Saturday night in Oklahoma City to snap their six-game USL Pro losing streak.
Christian Duke assisted former Sporting KC midfielder Michael Thomas’ goal in the 93rd minute as Jimmy Nielsen’s squad improved to 3-7-0 on the season and jumped from 13th to 11th in the USL Pro standings.
Duke played all 90 minutes in his sixth straight start for OKC Energy FC across all competitions. His corner kick at the tail end of second half stoppage time was headed home by Thomas, resulting in Energy FC’s first home win of the 2014 season. Goalkeeper Jon Kempin earned his second shutout in front of a sold out crowd of 3,777 at Pribil Stadium.
Energy FC will now prepare for two league matches in North Carolina this weekend. They visit the Wilmington Hammerheads (5-1-2) on Friday before a meeting with the Charlotte Eagles (3-7-0) on Saturday.
Orlando City SC (9-0-3) continued their unbeaten start to the USL Pro season with a 2-0 home victory over the Charleston Battery. Following a first half strike from Corey Hertzig, Kevin Molino sealed the win with his league-leading ninth goal of the season in the 76th minute. Midfielder Mikey Lopez saw 20 minutes of action as a second half substitute.
Orlando City has a six-point lead atop the USL Pro standings and hosts the Montreal Impact Reserves on Saturday.
