Sporting Kansas City striker Alan Pulido remained off the gameday roster for Sporting Kansas City's tilt with FC Dallas on Saturday, extending his absence to four consecutive games, but he returned to full team training this week and Manager Peter Vermes says he's close to being back in action.

"He’s been doing a lot of individual training and he trained with the team (Friday), so he’s been working really hard and he’s progressing really well," Vermes said on Friday. "The fact that he’s training with the team is a good thing."

Vermes also explained the precautious approach the club has taken to ensure he's fully prepared and recovered from the setback.

"He played every single minute of every single game up to a certain point. We needed to give him a break, so we did," Vermes said. "And what happened was he had a little bit of a strain. It was more of a nerve in his hamstring. And so we just didn’t want to push it to where it would become a pull or a tear, which in turn would’ve been a lot longer than it has been up until now. We’ve just been a little bit more cautious with it. We want to make sure when he comes back he’s 100% ready."

Pulido has three goals and four assists in the league for Sporting Kansas City in his first eight regular season appearances.

Sporting KC will conclude a three-game homestand at 6:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday against MLS is Back Tournament finalist Orlando City SC as Sporting faces its first opponent from the Eastern Conference in the 2020 MLS regular season. Tickets are available online at SeatGeek.com and the mid-week match will feature national coverage on FS1 (English), FOX Deportes (Spanish) and the FOX Sports App.
