Alekzandur earns 4-Seed ahead of eMLS Cup

After reaching the quarterfinals in eMLS League Series 1, and a solid showing in eMLS League Series 2 qualifiers, Sporting Kansas Cityā€™s eMLS representative Alekzandur earned the 4-seed in the 2022 eMLS Cup presented by Coca-Cola. Alekzandur is one of 11 automatic qualifiers for the tournament and will compete at SXSW in Austin, Texas on March 13. The Last Chance Qualifier where the final qualifier for eMLS Cup will be determined is set for March 12.

Coming off an appearance in the quarterfinals of eMLS League Series 1, Alekzandur continued his impressive form in League Series 2 qualifiers. On day 1 he earned results in six of his seven matches.

Alekzandur got qualifiers started off right with a 2-1 stoppage-time victory over Inter Miami CFā€™s IMCF_Pabs. Nashville SCā€™s Joksan handed Alekzandur his only defeat of the day in match two.

Alekzandur did not let that set him back and rattled off five straight results. He defeated FC Cincinnatiā€™s Cisse 2-1 before drawing 1-1 with Columbus Crewā€™s Ntartaglia01. Alekzandurā€™s third win of the night came by a 4-1 pummeling of LA Galaxyā€™s GODFATHER.

Day one ended with consecutive 2-2 draws, first to LAFCā€™s Savvy Panda and then Orlando City SCā€™s JMendez17. After his first seven matches, Alekzandur sat on 12 points and found himself in that eighth and final qualifying spot. It would all come down to day two of Leagues Series 2 qualifiers.

Alekzandur came out firing on day two of qualifiers, beating New England Revolutionā€™s YounggCarter 4-1. Alekzandur lost 2-0 to Atlanta Unitedā€™s PauloNeto999 but bounced back with a 1-0 win against Houston Dynamoā€™s Adamou\99 and a 6-1 thrashing of St. Louis Cityā€™s Hasib\7.

Heading into the final match League Series 2 qualifiers, Alekzandur was in seventh place and needed a win guarantee a spot in Saturdayā€™s quarterfinals. He grinded out a 3-3 draw against Minnesota Unitedā€™s Lamps with a stoppage-time goal but failed to qualify as other results did not go his way.

Despite not qualifying for League Series 2, Alekzandurā€™s 15-4-7 (52 points) record across both qualifiers places him fourth overall heading into eMLS Cup in March. Alekzandur is one of four players with a first-round bye in eMLS Cup and will face the winner of the round one matchup between Atlanta's PauloNeto999 and the winner of the Last Chance Qualifier tournament.
