Major League Soccer announced today the MLS Team of the Matchday presented by Audi for Matchday 28 of the regular season with Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland and forward Andre Luiz both honored as two of the top 20 players in the league following the club's 2-0 road win over the Houston Dynamo on Saturday at Shell Energy Stadium.
Cleveland produced five saves -- and leads all Western Conference goalkeepers with 16 saves over the past three matchdays -- as Sporting Kansas City recorded the team's first shutout of the season while snapping Houston's 11-game home unbeaten run across all competitions. Cleveland has started 17 straight games for Sporting Kansas City and his 59 saves this season have moved him into the top 10 on the club's all-time chart.
Andre earns MLS Team of the Matchday recognition for a third straight week after scoring the game-winning goal and adding an assist in the 2-0 victory over the Dynamo. The 24-year-old Brazilian Designated Player is only the third player in club history to score four goals in his first four regular season starts for SKC and the sixth player in club history to record five goal contributions (four goals, one assist) in his first five regular season apeparances for Sporting.
Sporting Kansas City will travel to the Pacific Northwest this week to take on reigning Leagues Cup champions Seattle Sounders FC at 8:30 p.m. CT on Thursday on the Emerald Queen Casino Pitch at Lumen Field. The Western Conference match-up will be available to watch in English and Spanish on Apple TV in addition to local radio coverage on Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Grande 1340 AM with audio streams in the SKC mobile app. All of the action will also be shown in pub partners across the Sporting Pub Network, including No Other Pub (1370 Grand Boulevard) in the KC Power and Light District in downtown Kansas City.
