Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City and Sporting KC named Liberty High senior Emily Szczuka the Blue KC Sporting Samaritan for the month of April.

Emily is a Liberty Public School Foundation HOPE Award recipient, sits on the school’s Link Crew and Key Club and is a member of the forensics and competitive theatre team. Emily received the Girls Scout Gold Award for her work at the Synergy Youth Resilience Center where she helped teens suffering from anxiety by coordinating knitting classes. The classes will continue and Emily’s Key Club will have annual yarn and knitting needle drives to help support Synergy!

Through her volunteer efforts, Emily has given back to the community but also gained a sense of accomplishment that she has helped other teens.

Emily was formally recognized on the field at the Sporting KC game on April 2, 2016. To learn more about the Blue KC Sporting Samaritan program and to nominate visit sportingkc.com/bluekc
