Major League Soccer clubs have been dominant in the 2014-15 CONCACAF Champions League group stage. The five MLS sides have an impressive 11-1-1 record in 13 matches and are averaging over two and a half points per game. This compares very favorably to Mexico's Liga MX (1.91 points per match) and Costa Rica's Primera Division (1.88), which are considered the other top leagues in this competition.
A part of that success is Sporting Kansas City, who are unbeaten in their last seven CCL group stage matches, conceding just three goals in those games. In the last week, Sporting KC earned two home victories (3-1 vs Saprissa, 3-0 vs Real Esteli) and climbed to the top of the Group 2 standings. The club will conclude the group stage on Oct. 23 at Saprissa.
Looking across the competition, D.C. United, Montreal Impact and Portland Timbers all lead their respective groups with a combined 8-0-0 record. The other MLS team in the competition, New York Red Bulls, are currently 1-1-0 and still have a chance to advance to the knockout stage.
