For a second straight year, Sporting Kansas City will visit the Colorado Rapids on the Fourth of July with kickoff set for 8:30 p.m. CT on Friday at DICK'S Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado. The Western Conference clash will be available to watch with an MLS Season Pass or Apple TV+ subscription, while Sports Radio 810 WHB will air the game locally.
Sporting earned a pair of home results last week, prevailing in a last-gasp 2-1 thriller over Charlotte FC and settling for a 1-1 tie against Real Salt Lake. Interim head coach Kerry Zavagnin's side will now venture west to the Rocky Mountains, seeking the club's first win at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in over a decade. The Rapids, meanwile, will look to protect home turf after surrendering a 3-0 lead in a 3-3 draw at the New England Revolution last weekend.

Head-to-Head
- Sporting and Colorado last met on Sept. 18, 2024, at Children’s Mercy Park. Forward Alan Pulido and midfielder Erik Thommy both scored braces to propel Sporting to a 4-1 home win, with Colorado receiving a late consolation goal from defender Michael Edwards.
- Sporting and Colorado notably met on the Fourth of July in 2024. The Rapids earned a 2-1 home win at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park behind a 69th-minute equalizer from Oliver Larraz and a 94th-minute penalty kick from Djordje Mihailovic. Sporting went ahead early in the second half through former captain Johnny Russell.
- Sporting has a 5-20-13 regular season road record at Colorado and hasn’t won at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park since March 29, 2014. Sporting has gone 0-6-5 at the stadium since 2015 and has won just three times at Colorado this millennium (2000, 2004, 2014).
- Sporting and Colorado have drawn five of the last seven meetings at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park dating back to 2018.
- Sporting has visited Colorado on the Fourth of July on three previous occasions in the MLS regular season: 2003 (lost 3-2), 2005 (lost 2-1) and 2024 (lost 2-1).
- Sporting and Colorado have met 90 times in all competitions, making the Rapids the most frequent opponent in Kansas City history.
- Sporting holds a series advantage with 36 wins, 32 losses and 22 ties, including a 30-27-19 record in 76 regular season meetings.

- Sporting earned a 1-1 home draw against Real Salt Lake on Saturday in a game that saw club great Matt Besler inducted into the Sporting Legends hall of honor at halftime. After former Kansas City captain Johnny Russell gave RSL a halftime lead, Erik Thommy leveled terms with a brilliant 59th-minute curler from distance to split the points.
- Sporting has come from behind to earn a result in five of its last eight matches since May 14, securing two wins and three ties. Sporting has a 2-2-4 record during that stretch.
- Kerry Zavagnin has a 5-5-4 record in 14 matches as Sporting’s interim head coach since the start of April. Kansas City opened the 2025 regular season with five losses and one draw.
- Sporting has scored 25 goals in 13 matches since April 1, tied for the fourth most in MLS during that time.
- Sporting has scored multiple goals eight times in its last 14 matches since the start of April after doing so just once in its previous 13 matches across all competitions dating back to 2024.
- Sporting has earned four results in its last seven away matches (2-3-2 record) since the start of April after earning just two results in its previous 18 away matches (1-16-1 record) from April 2024 through March 2025.

- Pulskamp is the only Sporting player to start in all 20 MLS matches and in all 22 matches this season across all competitions.
- Midfielder Erik Thommy scored Sporting’s second-half equalizer in a 1-1 home draw against Real Salt Lake on Saturday, earning MLS Team of the Matchday honors for his performance. He has six goal contributions this season (three goals, three assists), including two goals and two assists as a substitute.
- Defender Ian James earned his first MLS start and his first club start for Sporting on Saturday against Real Salt Lake. At 17 years and 22 days, he became the youngest defender to start an MLS match and the second youngest player to start an MLS match in club history.
- Forward Dejan Joveljic scored Sporting’s 96th-minute winner in the 2-1 win over Charlotte on June 25 and is tied for third in MLS with 11 goals this season. His 11 goals are also fourth most by a Kansas City newcomer in club history.
- Joveljic is the first Sporting player since Johnny Russell in 2018 to score double-digit goals in his first MLS season with the club.
- Joveljic leads MLS with 32 goals since the start of 2024 (including playoffs).
- Joveljic has a goal contribution in six consecutive MLS appearances since May 14, the longest active streak in the league. He has six goals and one assist during that six-game stretch.
- Joveljic has scored in three straight road appearances since May 14, bagging four total goals in that three-game stretch.
- Midfielder Manu Garcia ranks third in MLS with nine assists and leads Sporting with 33 key passes, more than double the amount of any other Kansas City player. His 11 total goal contributions (two goals, nine assists) are second most on the team behind Dejan Joveljic (13).
- Garcia has an assist in four straight MLS matches since the start of June, the longest active streak in the league and the second longest streak of any MLS player this season.
- Garcia has five assists in his last four MLS matches after totaling four assists in his first 16 league appearances this season.
- Garcia ranks third in MLS in fouls suffered (44), progressive passes (174) and successful passes into the final third (148) while ranking fourth in successful passes into the penalty area (46), fifth in successful through balls (11) and eighth in goal-creating actions (11).
- Forward Mason Toye came off the bench to score Sporting’s 93rd-minute equalizer in the 2-1 home win over Charlotte FC on June 25. It was his first goal this season, his first in a Kansas City uniform and his first since April 20, 2024, when he played for CF Montreal.
- Forward Santiago Munoz has a goal contribution in three of his last five MLS appearances (two goals, one assist) since May 31. All three of his goal contributions have come as a second-half substitute.
- Forward Daniel Salloi has nine goal contributions (five goals, four assists) this season, third most on the team behind Joveljic and Garcia, after totaling just seven goal contributions during the 2024 MLS campaign (two goals, five assists).
- Salloi ranks second on the team in both goals (five) and assists (four).
- Forward Shapi Suleymanov is tied for second on the team with four assists. He ranks fourth in MLS in fouls suffered (43) and sixth in dribbles into the penalty area (34).
- At 19 years and 270 days (as of Friday, July 4), midfielder Jacob Bartlett is the youngest player to start at least 17 MLS matches this season. He has started in 15 straight matches for Sporting since March 29.
- Defender Jansen Miller has played the most regular season minutes (1,485) of any 2025 MLS SuperDraft selection this year. He has played every minute in each of Sporting’s last 15 games since March 22.
- Midfielder Zorhan Bassong has recorded assists in back-to-back MLS matches for the first time in his career. He has missed Sporting’s last four matches since the start of June while on international duty with Canada.

- Colorado surrendered a 3-0 lead in a 3-3 road draw at the New England Revolution on Saturday. Calvin Harris, Rafael Navarro and Ted Ku-DiPietro fired the Rapids ahead before New England bagged three consecutive goals to rescue a point.
- Colorado ranks 28th in MLS in average possession (44.4%) and 27th in passing accuracy (79.2%).
- Colorado ranks last in MLS in crossing accuracy from open play (16%).
- Colorado is 7-2-2 when scoring the first goal and 0-6-2 when allowing the first goal this season.
- Colorado is 4-1-1 when leading at halftime and 0-7-2 when trailing at halftime this season.
- Colorado has conceded 11 goals from the 31st minute until halftime, the most in MLS this season.
- Five of Colorado’s seven MLS wins have come by a one-goal margin. The team has a 5-3-5 record in games decided by a goal or fewer this season.
- Attacking midfielder Djordje Mihailovic leads Colorado with eight goals this season while also adding three assists, tied for most on the team. - Midfielder Oliver Larraz is the only Colorado player to appear in all 20 MLS matches this season. He is tied for the team lead with three assists and leads MLS in blocks (39) while ranking eighth in fouls committed (34) and ninth in tackles won (27).
- Forward Calvin Harris has scored goals in two consecutive games and has three goals on the season.
- Defender Reggie Cannon ranks second in MLS in interceptions (39).

- Sporting is one victory shy of 450 wins in all competitions and 300 home wins in all competitions.
- Goalkeeper John Pulskamp is one shy of his 50th MLS regular season appearance for Sporting.
- Defender Andrew Brody is one shy of his 250th professional club appearance.
