Diego Rubio's dramatic strike wins AT&T Goal of the Week

Sporting Kansas City has its second AT&T MLS Goal of the Week winner in 2018.

Diego Rubio's dramatic equalizer in Saturday's riveting 3-2 win over the Houston Dynamo cruised to the top spot in the Week 17 AT&T Goal of the Week race.

The Chilean striker’s ruthless finish capped a slick passing combination right through the heart of the Dynamo defense, setting the stage for his fellow substitute Khiry Shelton to net the game-winner minutes later, completing an impressive rally from 2-0 down at halftime to worthy victors at Children’s Mercy Park.

Rubio’s effort garnered 42 percent of the vote, safely beating the second-place contender Aaron Long of the New York Red Bulls. Check out the final Week 17 voting results and video of all five nominated goals.

Forward Johnny Russell was Sporting KC's first AT&T Goal of the Week winner this year, landing the award for his stunning solo effort in a 2-0 road win over the LA Galaxy on April 8.

Manager Peter Vermes' men will now travel north of the border for a cross-conference clash with the Montreal Impact (6-11-0, 18 points) at Stade Saputo, kicking off at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday. FOX Sports Kansas City, FOX Sports Midwest and FOX Sports GO will air three hours of live coverage beginning at 5:30 p.m. CT, while listeners can catch the action on Sports Radio 810 WHB (English) and ESPN Deportes KC 1480 AM (Spanish). Sports Radio 810 WHB will also air The Final Whistle postgame show immediately after the game.

All supporters are welcome to attend the official watch party for Saturday's match at No Other Pub in the Kansas City Power & Light District. Starting at 5:30 p.m. CT, No Other Pub will offer $4 Bud Light drafts and an all-you-can-eat buffet with bottomless soda and domestic draft beers.
