Sporting Kansas City defender Erik Palmer-Brown was named to the United States Under-20 Men’s National Team roster on Friday for the 2015 Stevan Vilotic-Cele Tournament in Serbia from Sept. 3-7.
"I'm excited to join the U-20’s for the upcoming camp in Serbia," Palmer-Brown said. "This is an important tournament for our team as we look to get this cycle off on the right foot and build off the success of last summer's World Cup."
U.S. Under-20 MNT head coach Tab Ramos selected 23 players for the group’s first international competition since the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in June, with Palmer-Brown the lone returning member. The U-20’s will open their training camp on Sunday and kick off the tournament against reigning U-20 World Cup champions Serbia on Sept. 3 before taking on France the following day to set up a placement match on Sept. 7.
Palmer-Brown, 18, has appeared in nine matches for Sporting Kansas City across all competition since signing as a Homegrown Player in August 2013 and making his MLS debut in May 2014, becoming the youngest player to appear in an MLS match in club history. The Lee’s Summit, Missouri native attended the prestigious U.S. Soccer Residency Program in Bradenton, Florida and has started in the Chipotle MLS Homegrown Game each of the last two years.
Palmer-Brown will be one of three Sporting KC players on international duty during the Aug. 31 through Sept. 8 FIFA fixture window. Krisztian Nemeth will join Hungary for UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying and Marcel de Jong was named to Canada’s roster for a pair of upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
