Five SKC Academy players in second round of Divison I Men's Soccer Tournament

Two SKC Academy players were eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship on Thursday. Three players saw their teams advance to the second round, while two more players will begin their run to the College Cup on Sunday.


The Fordham Rams were the only team with SKC Academy players to be eliminated in the first round of the tournament following a 1-0 loss to Boston College. Defender Matthew Lewis played 82 minutes in the loss while Cole Stevenson started and played 68 minutes.


UNLV, Creighton and Coastal Carolina were the three teams with SKC Academy players to advance past the first round of the tournament. Alexis Quevedo did not feature for the UNLV Rebels, who defeated San Diego State 6-5 on penalty kicks to set up a date with unbeaten University of Denver. Sophomore defender Bryce Gibson played 34 minutes in the Bluejays’ 3-0 win. Creighton will now travel to play the No. 16 seed University of Kentucky. Redshirt junior forward Wes White (pictured, above) did not feature in Coastal Carolina’s win as he was serving a one-game red card suspension. He will return for the Chanticleers second round match at Wake Forest.


Two SKC Academy players will enter the tournament in the second round after earning first round byes. Forward Zach Wright and the University of North Carolina Tar Heels will host Florida Gulf Coast University on Sunday, while goalkeeper Ryan Krutz and the Notre Dame Fightin’ Irish will host Loyola Chicago.
