Sporting Kansas City returns home this weekend when the team plays host to the Houston Dynamo at Sporting Park on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT and will be available to stream on Apple TV, while the game will also be broadcast locally on the radio via Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Grande 1340 AM. 1. CONTINUING POSITIVE HOME FORM
Sporting Kansas City is back in the friendly confines of Sporting Park this weekend when the team hosts the Houston Dynamo on Saturday night looking to continue the team’s uptick in home form over recent matches.
After opening the 2026 season winless in the club’s first five home matches, Sporting has won two of their last three at home with victories over the LA Galaxy on May 13 and Minnesota United on July 22. Between those matches, Sporting fell 2-1 to Red Bull New York on May 23 in a match where Sporting won the expected goals battle.
New defenders Or Blorian, Emir Karic and Moises Mosquera have all made their debuts in the opening three matches since MLS resumed play in mid-July and Sporting will hope that more time on the field will lead to better results moving forward as the team embarks on the second half of the regular season starting on Saturday.
After a challenging start to the season, Sporting has now won three of the team’s last six matches - resulting in nine of the 14 points Raphael Wicky’s squad has accumulated to this point. Sporting remains nine points back from the playoff line with 17 games remaining.
2. BUILDING ON GOOD RECENT RECORD vs. DYNAMO
Sporting Kansas City returns home this weekend when the team plays host to longtime foes the Houston Dynamo at Sporting Park on Saturday night. Sporting is coming off a win over Minnesota and a loss against LAFC last week, while Houston drew at home with D.C. United last Wednesday before dispatching Texas rivals Austin FC 3-0 on Saturday.
Sporting last hosted Houston on the final day of the 2025 season, with the teams sharing the spoils following a 0-0 stalemate on Decision Day. With neither side in contention for the postseason, bragging rights were split as John Pulskamp made six saves on his way to securing the shutout for SKC.
Sporting claimed the season series over Houston in 2025 after defeating the Dynamo 3-1 at Shell Energy Stadium on May 31, 2025. After falling behind early to a stunning goal from Sebastian Kowalczyk, Sporting took the lead through a brace from Dejan Joveljic before Santi Munoz made the points safe in the 88th minute.
Sporting has lost just one of their last 10 regular-season matches against Houston, going 5-1-4 in that time - with the lone defeat coming at Sporting Park on May 11, 2024. Sporting holds a razor-thin lead in the all-time series by going 15-14-17, including a 9-6-8 mark at home.
3. CAPITA STARTS SECOND PORTION OF SEASON IN FINE FORM
Sporting Kansas City forward Capita Capemba has started off the second portion of the 2026 season strong, despite missing last weekend’s defeat against LAFC at BMO Stadium on Saturday night due to illness.
Since the season restart, Capita has tallied a goal in the 3-2 loss against St. Louis on July 16 and an assist in the 2-1 victory over Minnesota United on July 22 before missing Saturday’s match in Los Angeles.
The Angolan speedster was rounding into form before the break, producing several impressive performances in succession and found the back of the net for the first time in Sporting Blue during the team’s 3-1 win over the LA Galaxy on May 13.
Capita, who has clocked the fastest top speed in MLS this season at 23 miles per hour, arrived in Kansas City during the early stages of the 2026 season in a transfer from Polish club Radomiak Radom where he had tallied 12 goals and two assists in 38 appearances over the past two seasons.
4. MOSQUERA SHOWS POSITIVE FLASHES ON DEBUT
Newly-signed Sporting Kansas City defender Moises Mosquera showed several flashes of quality during his brief 21-minute cameo on Saturday night as he made his debut for the club in the loss to LAFC at BMO Stadium.
Signed earlier this summer from FC Juarez in Liga MX, Mosquera came on in the 69th minute to replace fellow newcomer Or Blorian for his first taste of MLS action with Sporting.
The Colombian showed well in his first appearance, winning multiple challenges and aerial duels along the backline while showing composure in tight space on the ball to build out from LAFC’s high press. Mosquera won all three of his aerial duels and completed 13 of 14 attempted passes.
Mosquera arrived in Kansas City having made 109 senior appearances while representing Juarez in Mexico and CS Maritimo in Portugal.
5. FUTURE HOMEGROWN ANTONGIROLAMI REPS AT ALL-STAR
Sporting Kansas City II defender Luca Antongirolami represented Sporting Kansas City at the 2026 MLS NEXT All-Star Game on Monday at Mecklenburg County Sportsplex in Matthews, North Carolina.
Antongirolami, who will join the Sporting KC first team ahead of the 2027-2028 season, was one of 44 players to compete in the MLS NEXT All-Star Game, coming on at halftime and playing the entire second half.
The East jumped out to a quick lead and put five past the West in the first half. They added a sixth in the second before the West pulled one back late, ending the game 6-1 in favor of the East.
A Kansas City native, Antongirolami joined the Sporting KC Academy in 2021 at 10 years old and has climbed through the pathway playing with both Sporting Kansas City II and Sporting’s U-18s in 2025 and 2026. The 15-year-old made his pro debut in Sporting KC II’s season opener on Feb. 28, 2026, becoming the second youngest player in SKC II history.
