During Hunger Action Month, Sporting Kansas City players, fans, and associates came together with Harvester to bring joy and nourishment to 200 families in the Kansas City area by packing nutritious, easy-to-prepare meal kits. This marks our third impactful event with Harvesters this year, following our Season Kickoff Party food drive and an engaging food packing event with Dairy Farmers of America and our dedicated Sporting KC associates.
The day was filled with laughter and teamwork as volunteers gathered at the Budweiser Brew House in Children’s Mercy Park on September 10th. Elizabeth Keever, Harvester’s Chief Resource Officer, inspired everyone by highlighting the challenges families face due to food insecurity and the profound impact events like this can have on our community. After uplifting remarks from Keever and Maigan T. Bridgette, Sporting KC’s Community Impact Manager, the volunteers eagerly launched into action.
Teams collaborated dynamically, with some preparing boxes of meal kits with food provided by Price Chopper, while others assembled the boxes and conducted quality assurance checks to ensure every family received exactly what they needed. Sporting KC Goalkeeper Ryan Schewe and Defender Jacob Bartlett rolled up their sleeves, assembling over 200 boxes alongside enthusiastic team associates.
Today’s event was a reminder of what community really looks like,”. Brigette shared. “Bringing together our associates, players, partners, and fans to assemble healthy meal kits alongside Harvesters was powerful. Each box we packed represents more than food; it’s a sign to Kansas City families that they are supported. These moments are why the Sporting Cares platform exists.”
This event was made possible through Sporting Kansas City’s community response platform, Sporting Cares. With a vision of fostering empathy, inclusivity, and swift assistance, Sporting Cares aims to be a catalyst for positive change, ensuring that no one in our community faces challenges alone. Together, we aspire to cultivate a united community, offering a supportive hand during difficult times and spreading hope throughout Kansas City.
