Sporting Kansas City’s 10-game road trip to start the 2011 season continues on Saturday with a visit to the defending MLS Cup champions Colorado Rapids. The Rapids (4-3-5) are currently in sixth place in the Western Conference, having earned a total of 17 points through 12 matches so far this season.

The match at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park will be the third in a week for Sporting Kansas City. Last Saturday, Sporting Kansas City fell 1-0 at the Seattle Sounders FC with the game’s lone goal coming in second-half stoppage time. On Wednesday, however, Sporting KC were firing on all cylinders as they defeated the New England Revolution by a 5-0 scoreline in the final round of qualifying for the 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Chance Myers and C.J. Sapong each scored twice, and Eric Kronberg made three saves in the shutout performance at the Blue Valley District Activities Complex in Overland Park, Kansas.

Sporting Kansas City lead the all-time series with Colorado with a record of 20-17-10 since the series began in 1996, but are 4-14-6 on the road against the Rapids all-time. Recent history favors Sporting Kansas City, as the club took four points from a possible six in two regular season meetings with the Rapids in 2010, including a 1-0 win at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on April 10th.

Sporting Kansas City will be without four players on Saturday due to international duty, as Stephane Auvray (Guadeloupe), Shavar Thomas (Jamaica) and Roger Espinoza (Honduras) have all joined their respective national teams for the upcoming 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Striker Kei Kamara will also be unavailable as he was selected by Sierra Leone for their African Cup of Nations qualifier on June 4th against Niger.

KSMO-TV will again air a 30-minute pre-game show hosted by play-by-play announcer Callum Williams and guest color commentator Conor McGahey, in addition to their weekly soccer show, ‘Off the Pitch’ with Sporting Kansas City, on Sunday at 9:30 p.m. CT.

Fans are encouraged to visit SportingKC.com during the match to join the website’s live chat for commentary and analysis, while watching on KSMO-TV or Time Warner Cable Channel 5 (Español).
