The Swope Park Rangers are back at home this weekend and will host Saint Louis FC at Swope Soccer Village on Saturday, July 2. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT and the game will be available via live stream on SportingKC.com, while tickets are available here.
The Rangers enter the weekend with a 5-7-2 record (17 pts.) after last weekend’s 2-0 victory over Seattle Sounders FC 2 at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila, Wash. The first half was an even affair, but the Rangers found the breakthrough in the 65th minute through Kris Tyrpak and Mark Anthony Gonzalez made the points safe late on with his team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Saint Louis FC are coming off a win of their own, claiming a 1-0 victory over Portland Timbers 2 at WWT Soccer Park last Saturday. A second-half goal from leading scorer Irvin Herrera was enough for Saint Louis to claim all three points and push their record to 6-5-4 (22 pts.).
The two sides have met once before, with SPR suffering a 3-0 road defeat on May 7. Goals from Schillo Tshuma, Chad Bond and Herrera saw Saint Louis win the first-ever contest between the two Missouri-based sides, while Oumar Ballo and Bond were also both sent off after receiving two yellow cards – which remains each sides’ only red card this season.
The Rangers and Saint Louis will meet twice more in the 2016 regular season, with SPR traveling to WWT Soccer Park on Aug. 3 before hosting STL at Children’s Mercy Park on Aug. 21.
The Swope Park Rangers will celebrate Military Appreciation Night on Saturday, and fans wearing the most patriotic gear will be recognized at halftime. There will also be a U.S. Soccer trivia contest at the interval.
