Injury Report: Two players out, one questionable ahead of Sporting's opener in MLS is Back Tournament on Sunday

Injury Report presented by Children's Mercy Sports Medicine Center - July 9, 2020

Sporting Kansas City is set to open Group D play in the MLS is Back Tournament tonight when the side faces off against Minnesota United FC at 7 p.m. on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and the ESPN app.

On the injury front, Sporting KC midfielder Ilie Sanchez is questionable as he looks to shake off a thigh injury.

Sporting is already without Andreu Fontas who stayed in Kansas City for treatment on a quad strain, while midfielder Felipe Gutierrez is out for the season following knee surgery in June.

Minnesota arrives in Orlando without former Sporting KC center back and reigning MLS Defender of the Year Ike Opara who remained in Minnesota to continue working back from an undisclosed injury. While head coach Adrian Heath was coy on the availability of midfielder Ozzie Alonso (hamstring), the combative midfielder is not listed on the club’s injury report.

Following tonight’s match, Sporting KC will round out Group D play against the Colorado Rapids on July 17 at 7 p.m. CT and Real Salt Lake on July 22 at 8 a.m. CT, with all three of Sporting’s group games airing nationally on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and the ESPN app.
