#instabesties: Dom Dwyer & Thierry Henry

On June 27, Sporting Kansas City recalled striker Dom Dwyer from his loan to affiliate club Orlando City SC. While on loan, Dwyer scored 18 goals for the Lions in all competition this season, including a USL PRO-record 15 goals in 13 league games. Dwyer added three goals in Orlando City’s run to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals and scored in an international friendly against Brazilian champions Fluminense FC.

Now Dwyer can add his first professional MLS goal to the list, that he scored on the same field as his childhood idol. Dwyer openly admits his admiration for one of the best soccer players in the world, unveiling that he wears no. 14 in recognition of Thierry Henry and watches a highlight reel of Henry's goals before each time he sets foot on the pitch for inspiration.

Dwyer had the good fortune to run into Henry at Aurelien Collin's fashion show that took place in conjunction with the MLS All-Star festivities at the Kansas City Power & Light District last Tuesday. The guys chatted and Henry agreed to swap jerseys with Dwyer after the match.

Dwyer entered Saturday's match against the New York Red Bulls in the 71st minute of play and notched his first professional goal in MLS in second half stoppage time. The icing on the cake? Henry's game-worn jersey.
