Sporting Kansas City Academy defender Jaylin Lindsey and the U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team are on the cusp of qualification for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup and one step closer to a continental title.

The United States closed out group stage action at the CONCACAF U-17 Championship with a 1-0 win over El Salvador on Saturday, posting a perfect 3-0-0 record that included a monumental 4-3 victory over archrivals Mexico on Wednesday.

With the U.S. already assured of winning Group C heading into Saturday, Lindsey was one of eight players rested against El Salvador who started in the Mexico triumph. The right back played all 90 minutes in his team’s first two games at the tournament, notably tallying an assist in a 5-0 defeat of Jamaica.

Head coach John Hackwork’s men now enter the Classification Stage of the competition, where they will face Honduras at 3:30 p.m. CT Wednesday and Cuba at 5:30 p.m. CT Friday in Group D. The top two finishers in the group will punch a ticket to the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, slated for Oct. 6-28 in India. The Group D winner will then face the Group F winner — either Costa Rica, Mexico or Panama — in the CONCACAF U-17 Championship final next Sunday, May 7.

Each of the United States’ remaining matches at the CONCACAF U-17 Championship will be played at Estadio Maracana in Panama City, Panama, streaming live in English on the CONCACAF YouTube page.
