Major League Soccer announced today the MLS Team of the Matchday presented by Audi for Matchday 21 of the regular season with Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper John Pulskamp and midfielder Erik Thommy honored as two of the top 20 players in the league following the team's 1-1 draw with Real Salt Lake on Saturday.
Pulskamp, the only player to start every match for Sporting in 2025, earned his second consecutive Team of the Matchday selection after recording seven saves to preserve a point for Sporting – one shy of his single-game high of eight. Pulskamp notably came up clutch after Sporting were reduced to 10 men in the 82nd minute, producing an excellent low stop on Zavier Gozo while also repelling several dangerous crosses into the area to help his team see out the result.
On the other end of the field, Thommy salvaged a point for Sporting with a brilliant effort from the edge of the area in the 59th minute, firing beyond Rafael Cabral in the RSL goal for his third goal of the 2025 season. The German playmaker now has four goal contributions (two goals, two assists) in five career regular season appearances against RSL.
Sporting KC hits the road this week for an Independence Day showdown against the Colorado Rapids set for 8:30 p.m. CT on Friday, July 4 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The match will be available to watch on Apple TV with an MLS Season Pass subscription in addition to airing locally on Sports Radio 810 WHB.
