Johnny Russell one of four finalists for MLS Goal of the Week

Sporting Kansas City forward Johnny Russell is one of four nominees for AT&T MLS Goal of the Week for his game-sealing, home-playoff match-clinching, top bends finish in Wednesday night’s 2-0 Sporting KC win vs. La Galaxy. This is his second nomination for Goal of the Week in a row.

Russell’s left-footed blast past Jonathan Bond is up against goals from Columbus Crew’s Lucas Zelaryan, Portland Timbers’ Darion Asprilla and Nashville SC’s Randall Leal. Fans can cast their vote in the Twitter poll below between now and Friday.

Russell who has 14 goals and seven assists this season, is just three goals off the Golden Boot leader Ola Kamara.

With two goals against the Galaxy, Russell extends his scoring streak to eight consecutive regular-season matches, the longest scoring streak in club history and the longest in MLS this year.

His 39 career MLS regular season goals puts him at number one for MLS career goals scored by a Scottish player, overtaking former Colorado Rapids forward John Spencer. His 39 goals also place him in a tie for fifth most goals all time in Sporting Kansas City history.
