Sporting Kansas City forward Kei Kamara moved into rare territory on Saturday when he recorded his 50th career regular season goal.
The path to 50 goals has not been a easy one for Kamara, who has played for four clubs during his eight-year career. But Kamara has been a revelation for Kansas City since Peter Vermes acquired the dynamic winger during the 2009 season. In 111 career regular season games for Kansas City, Kamara has 36 goals and his .32 goals per game average is second only to Sporting KC Legend Preki (.33).
On the MLS scoring chart, Kamara is now tied with Mike Magee for 34th all-time. With regard to active players, Kamara and Magee are 11th on the scoring chart, one behind Columbus Crew midfielder Eddie Gaven.
In addition to being lethal in front of goal, Kamara has shown he can be an astute playmaker as well. Kamara's assist on Dom Dwyer's stoppage-time goal on Saturday was his 20th career regular season assist for Kansas City and 23rd all-time. The assist moved him into a tie with former KC midfielder Jack Jewsbury for ninth on the all-time list.
