Sporting Kansas City forward Kei Kamara was selected by the Sierra Leone Football Association for an upcoming World Cup qualifier against Equatorial Guinea on September 7.
Kamara, 29, has scored seven goals in 15 appearances for Sporting KC this season. He played the final six minutes of Sporting KC's 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids on Saturday after missing the team's previous two matches due to injury.
Sierra Leone has one game remaining in World Cup qualifying. The Leone Stars are currently in third place in their group and are unable to advance to the next round of qualifying. Sierra Leone will conclude group play when they host Equatorial Guinea on Saturday in Freetown, the nation's capital.
Kamara will join Sierra Leone this week ahead of the qualifier and will be unavailable for Sporting KC's September 7 match against the Columbus Crew at Sporting Park.
