Major League Soccer announces dates for 2014 MLS Cup Playoffs

Major League Soccer announced on Tuesday the dates for the 2014 MLS Cup Playoffs, presented by AT&T. The playoffs will kick off on October 29 and for the second consecutive year, the MLS Cup Final will take place on December 7.

Sporting Kansas City are the reigning MLS Cup champions, having defeated Real Salt Lake in a penalty kick shootout at Sporting Park on December 7, 2013.

The top five teams from each conference will qualify for the 2014 MLS Cup Playoffs, which will begin on October 29-30 with the Conference Knockout round featuring the 4v5 matchup in each conference. Similar to last year, both the Conference Semifinals and Conference Championships will be decided by a two-game, aggregate-goal format.

MLS Cup will then be hosted by the finalist that finished the regular season with the most points in the standings. The MLS Cup Final will air at 2 p.m. CT on ESPN and UniMas in the United States and TSN and RDS in Canada.

Sporting KC is currently in second place in the Eastern Conference, three points behind D.C. United. Sporting KC's next MLS match will be Friday night when they host third-place New England Revolution at Sporting Park. Limited tickets are available and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com or by calling 888-4KC-GOAL.
