The annual Sporting KC Media Game took place at Sporting Park on Wednesday night at halftime of the club’s 3-1 victory over the LA Galaxy.
It was a night to remember for Team KC who put the beatdown on Team Sporting, claiming a decisive 4-0 victory over Team Sporting in the 10-minute showdown.
Diego Gutierrez, with over 300 MLS appearances to his name and now a broadcaster with La Grande 1340 AM, initially made inroads for Team Sporting when he cut beyond No Other Pod’s Jimmy Mack inside the area but was denied by KSHB 41’s Matt Foster in the Team KC goal before TJ Jackson from Life 88.5 put the rebound into the side-netting.
Team KC immediately took advantage and grabbed the lead in the third minute when Luis Recinos of Nuestra Vision Arkansas turned home a low cross from La Semana’s Walfri Rodas in front of goal.
Foster repelled wave after wave of Team Sporting attacks over the next several minutes to preserve his shutout before another Nuestra Vision Arkansas member – Carlos Aldahir Chicas – doubled the lead in the fifth minute after being set up by good work from the KC Soccer Journal’s Cody Bradley and KSHB 41’s Fernanda Silva.
FOX4’s Marcus Officer spurned a golden opportunity to pull a goal back for Team Sporting when he mis-controlled in front of goal and Team KC went for the jugular after that, with first Bradley bundling home from close range in the eighth minute before Chicas bagged his second of the night to complete the scoring with the final kick of the game.
