Sporting KC associates and coaching staff came together once again for the second annual Adopt a Backpack Back to School Drive Initiative! Through the Sporting Cares platform, the team is dedicated to fostering a community filled with empathy and support, and this initiative truly highlighted that spirit.
Last year, Sporting launched the program by adopting over 60 backpacks for the Hope Center KC, each packed with school supplies and a heartfelt note wishing the students a great year ahead. For the second year, associates rallied behind this program, realizing how much it meant not only to the students but also to the community involved. The connections formed while packing the bags inspired them to take things to the next level.
This time, Sporting more than doubled their efforts, adopting 150 backpacks for students across the Kansas City area! With 75 backpacks designated for the Hope Center KC and another 75 for the Bethel Neighborhood Center in KCK, each backpack was personally adopted by an associate who filled it with supplies and a cheerful note.
On August 12, they held a lively backpack-filling event where associates collaborated to pack the remaining backpacks with over 2,000 school supplies. That same day, they celebrated at the stadium, welcoming students and families from the Bethel Neighborhood Center to receive their backpacks. The event featured refreshments, visits from Blue the Dog, and Sporting KC players Jansen Miller and Stephen Afrifa, who joyfully handed out the bags to each excited child.
The following week, they delivered the backpacks for the Hope Center KC. It was a wonderful demonstration of how the Sporting KC community comes together to make a positive impact in the lives of local students!
