With Sporting Kansas City off from training yesterday, captain Matt Besler took some time to visit Sports Radio 810-WHB for a chat with morning radio host Nate Bukaty. Besler's 30-minute interview touched on a variety of topics including the emergence of goalkeeper Tim Melia, his defensive partnership with Kansas City native Kevin Ellis and recent developments in MLS including the addition of targeted allocation money and many international stars.
Bukaty asked Besler how Sporting Kansas City has managed to find success with players that don't have the resume of a Steven Gerrard or a Frank Lampard. The Sporting KC captain and World Cup veteran responded:
"It doesn't matter who you are or where you come from or how big your name is, you have to buy into the team. You have to buy into the system we play. And if you do that, you are going to fit in. And if you don't do that, and this is a credit to Peter [Vermes], but if you don't do that and you don't perform then he is going to let you go."
Listen to the podcast of the interview below including Besler's thoughts on the potential for Mexican international Giovani Dos Santos joining MLS.
